It is not uncommon for someone to roll their eyes the moment the word “Kardashian” leaves my mouth. Literally guys, you are all being so rude. The Kardashian-Jenner clan deserves more praise and less hate when it comes to their status as reality stars.

Why are the Kardashians the only famous family that receives hate due to their overly dramatic television (TV) series? Other reality shows have had other scandals and have done much worse things than promote a waist trainer. Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson was suspended from his show for making homophobic and racist comments in an interview for GQ magazine. However, Robertson was only suspended temporarily and is now back on the show. Yet the Kardashians cannot seem to be forgiven for their shady and questionable pasts that never offended an entire demographic. The Bachelor pits woman against woman in a fight for a husband. Love should be formed naturally, not in a sexually charged mansion filled with hysterical women clamoring for the same “perfect guy.” To me, that seems to promote worse morals than Keeping Up with the Kardashians (KUWTK).

Long before KUWTK premiered about 10 years ago, the “klan” had been, and still remains, the epitome of negative feedback toward reality television stars. But when it comes down to it, the notorious family does a lot more for society than people realize.

Kylie Jenner has started her own Instagram campaign, #iammorethan, in which she posts about individuals who, despite their physical or mental setbacks, are still happy with who they are. She posts about their stories and how they overcame their struggles along with a picture of the person. In addition, Kylie has been working on her new Kylie Lip Kit from both the assembly line and the marketing headquarters. She is known to visit the employees working on her line to join in and help. Although Kylie can come off as an affluent, rowdy teenager in her numerous Snapchat stories, there are sides to her that no one tries to get to know. Kylie is not the only member of the klan who has made strides to try and influence her fans to make a difference in their lives.

Khloe Kardashian has turned over a new, preferably kale, leaf when it comes to her new, healthy lifestyle. Khloe recently published her book, Strong Looks Better Naked, in which she shares her tips on how she lost all of her weight and became more confident with herself. By prompting her followers to do the same, Khloe is leaving a positive impact on those who look up to her. When Khloe’s husband, Lamar Odom was hospitalized last October, Khloe stayed by his side despite the fact that they are separated.

This, yet again, proves how the Kardashians are caring and supportive people rather than the evil, narcissistic women that they are portrayed to be. Yes, the Kardashian-Jenner girls have flaws. Yes, they have all made mistakes in their past. But if we define them by just their slip ups, then we are no better than them.

I am positive that if a camera was on each and every one of us 24/7, the public would scrutinize and criticize us just as much. The time spent judging this family off of a show that directors and producers are known to manipulate in order to receive better ratings would be better spent doing things that will matter, like starting an Instagram campaign or writing a book that will inspire young girls.

Before rolling your eyes at the sound of me mentioning anything Kardashian-related, realize that there is more to these women than what TV displays.
