Amaya Haley, Soccer, University of Las Vegas Nevada

Amaya Haley, women’s soccer player, signed with the University of Nevada Las Vegas on Nov. 9, 2022. Haley was drawn towards the unique coaching staff and ability to live out her childhood dream of playing at the collegiate level.

“I plan on going pro, so playing at the college level is the first step to accomplishing it. I have also played soccer my whole life and have loved every moment of it, so naturally I wouldn’t hesitate to play college level soccer,” Haley said.

Haley has played since she was 7 years old and has sacrificed many things to get where she is today, learning many lessons along the way.

“Hard work pays off. It may feel like you’re missing out on everything at the moment but it is most definitely worth it when you achieve your goals in the long run,” Haley said, “Being a student athlete isn’t easy. There have been plenty of late study nights and early workout mornings, but staying organized is a skill that will help now and in college.”

Throughout Haley’s collegiate career, academics will be a high priority, but ultimately soccer is the end goal.

“I am majoring in biology with the intention of going to medical school. However, my number one career goal is to go pro.” Haley said.

Reflecting on her years of soccer, Haley has her family to thank and hopes her competitive spirit creates an admirable legacy.

“I would like to thank my family and specifically my brother for guiding me through my athletic and recruitment process,” Haley said. “He single handedly acted as my social media manager, personal trainer and greatest hype man.”

“I hope to be remembered for my competitiveness. Regardless of the opponent or circumstances, I always play to win,” Haley said.
