Ethan Scribner, Abilene Christian University
Ethan Scribner, a senior at Plano West, has just signed with Abilene Christian University for tennis.
Scribner got involved with tennis because of his older brother. Growing up, Scribner admired his brother playing tennis, which inspired him to play as well. Tennis started out as a hobby for him, but now it’s more than that. “I watched my older brother, Austin playing tennis and eventually I said to myself that’s going to be me someday. I have been playing ever since and I haven’t regretted it one bit,” said Scribner.
Abilene Christian University was the perfect school for Scribner to sign with, mainly because of the atmosphere. “It has such a welcoming and home-like environment, which is exactly what I was looking for,” said Scribner.
He not only appreciates the environment at the school, but the people he has met there. So far Scribner has met the tennis team and coaches at Abilene. One thing he loves about the school is how encouraging and close everyone is to one another, including the coaches. “No one is just a number at this University, everyone is a contribution to this school,” said Scribner.
He plans to continue playing tennis in college, and is also majoring in business and marketing. “I think being in sports marketing has been a dream of mine for quite some time now,” said Scribner.
This plan is good for Scribner, because Abilene’s marketing students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in marketing. They get to work for student-run marketing research firms. Another advantage of this program is with a marketing degree at Abilene students gain in-depth knowledge of the principles and strategies of marketing businesses.
One life lesson tennis Scribner has learned from playing tennis is that there are always better things to come, even in bad situations.
“After a bad point or a bad thing in life, there is always more to play and there is always something better to come,” said Scribner.
