A Plano West v. Boyd Recap, Looking at Team Stats, and a Week Seven District Review

Plano West lost against McKinney Boyd last Friday night 52-13, their second-worst loss-margin of the season at 39 points.

Wolves’ QB junior Danny Davis threw for 172 yards on 12 completed attempts and managed to rush for an additional 41 yards and a rushing touchdown halfway into the fourth quarter. Davis also threw two interceptions, one on the second play of the game, and the other on West’s first drive of the second quarter. Senior back Noah Scroggins led West in rushing with 64 yards, and sophomore Greg Draughn added 25 yards of his own on four carries. Junior Cole Carter was able to reel in four receptions for 99 yards, and junior Tavarius Garland followed with 48 yards on six receptions.

McKinney Boyd’s offense was off and rolling from the start of the game. Broncos QB Collin Drake threw for 162 yards and one touchdown on six completions and ran for 39 yards and one rushing touchdown on six carries. Another Bronco QB, Christian Ziegler, threw a total of 47 yards and one touchdown on three completions. Ziegler finished first among Broncos’ rushers with 69 yards on 10 carries. The Broncos would score four of their six touchdowns on the ground, with Ja Tyler Shaw leading the way with two, followed by Jaden Nixon and Collin Drake, who each had one. Boyd receiver Kareem Coleman tallied 133 yards and one touchdown on five receptions, and Alex Taylor had 76 yards and one touchdown. McKinney Boyd will host the Prosper Eagles (5-1) on Thursday.

A Week Seven District 9-6A Recap

  • Allen (6-0) smothered Plano East (5-1) last Friday 74-36, handing the Panthers their first loss. Allen is ranked as the number one team in the state and ninth in the nation. Despite the Panthers’ loss, East is still listed as the 21st best team in Texas.
  • Prosper (5-1) defeated Jesuit (2-4) on a last-second field goal to win 30-28. Prosper is ranked at number 28 in the state.
  • McKinney (1-5) beat Plano (2-4) at Clark Stadium 17-7 to win their first game of the year, leaving Plano West as the only team in 9-6A to not win a game so far.


Plano West will head back to Clark Stadium for just one of two remaining home games this year, where they will play against the 1-5 McKinney Lions.
