Plano West WR Tavarius Garland (#9) hypes the team up in the tunnel before a game against Plano Senior.

After all District 9-6A teams had the week off last Friday, Plano West will head North of Sam Rayburn Tollway tonight to McKinney, where they will match up against the McKinney Boyd Broncos.

The Broncos are near the Wolves in the District standings, recording a 1-4 record on the season. Their only win, you ask? Week five against Jesuit (who shutout West 42-0 in week four), where the Broncos galloped away with a 35-28 victory. Their losses, though, were against Rowlett, Flower Mound Marcus, Lewisville, and Plano East in weeks one through four, respectively.

In Boyd’s game against Jesuit, the Broncos posted 18 first downs and 396 yards of offense (235 rushing, 161 passing). Their scoring game was productive and nearly flawless, and they didn’t allow a single turnover. Two of their touchdowns came from passing, and the remaining three came on the ground courtesy from running backs Ja Tyler Shaw (who had two) and Sedric Boler.

Boyd’s rushing game will be a key component to their offensive game if they want to see success against Plano West, whose defense has allowed an average of 41 points and 216.4 rushing yards per game.

Here are leading statistics for both teams:

Plano West

  • Average Points Scored Per Game: 13.8
  • Yards Per Game: 254
  • Yards Allowed Per Game: 443.6
  • QB Danny Davis: 714 passing yards, three touchdowns, five interceptions
  • RB Noah Scroggins: 321 rushing yards, two touchdowns
  • WR Cole Carter: 259 receiving yards, three touchdowns

McKinney Boyd

  • Yards Allowed Per Game: 409.2
  • QB Christian Ziegler: 441 passing yards, one passing touchdown, four rushing touchdowns, four interceptions
  • RB Ja Tyler Shaw: 289 rushing yards, four touchdowns
  • WR Kareem Coleman: 362 receiving yards, three touchdowns
  • WR Alex Taylor: 113 receiving yards

Notable District Information:

  • Allen (5-0) will host Plano East (5-0) tonight, as the Panthers will look to upset the defending 6A State Champions. Only one undefeated team will remain after their contest.
  • Plano West (0-5) and McKinney (0-5) are the only two teams in the District to go without a win so far. The two teams will face each other a week from today at Clark Stadium, where either the Wolves or the Lions will attempt to end their losing streak (assuming they both lose tonight).

Start time for the West vs. Boyd game is currently scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at McKinney ISD Stadium, as the Wolves continue to search for their first win of the season.
