Sister of former Senior Class President elected to the Position of Junior Class President
After running head-to-head against Sepehr Khavari, Taylor Dawson won the Junior Class President election after campaigning from Oct. 1 through Oct. 9.
As the younger sister of Ava Dawson, last year’s Senior Class President, campaigning for an electoral spot was in her blood.
“My sister, Ava Dawson, was very involved in Student Council…inspiring me to follow in her footsteps,” said Dawson. “[She] helped me understand the necessary campaign tactics to use with her previous experience and gave me some tips to better execute my speech.”
Outside of Student Council, Dawson spends most of her time competing with the Lady Wolves soccer team.
“[I’ve] played soccer most of my life,” said Dawson. “I [also] love spending time with family and friends and exploring new coffee shops on the weekend.”
Dawson’s main campaigning tactic was the use of social media to spread the word about her mission.
“I campaigned a lot through social media and texted my friends to vote and sign my petition,” said Dawson. “I had some trouble because my Instagram got hacked halfway through my campaign but was still able to interact with my classmates throughout the school day and encourage them to vote!”
Dawson has high hopes for taking part in the Student Council this year, hoping to accomplish more student authority.
“One of my goals is to have more student-chosen events, like powder puff games. Student-run activities and clubs can help put students’ ideas into action more effectively,” said Dawson.
Dawson found out through her Student Council President that she had been elected to the spot.
“She pranked me at first and made it sound like I lost but then congratulated me and told me the good news!” said Dawson.
