Teacher Feature: Amanda Tambourine

Avery Klatsky, Staff Writer

Where were you born?

I was born in Cherokee, Iowa.

What college(s) did you attend?

Northwest Missouri State, the University of Nebraska, Richland Community College, and the University of Texas at Dallas.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

I have not always loved math. In fact, I made a D in middle school. It wasn’t until my high school math teacher made math click for me and I wanted to do that for students. I started my student teaching at West in August 2007, and they hired me second semester of that year.

If you could not teach math, what other subject would you like to teach?

Oh wow. I have never thought about that. I would love to teach a class on life. It would include all the things they don’t usually teach you in school all packed into one class.

If you could not teach at West, what other school would you prefer?

West is the best. I have always said that if I can’t teach at West I will not teach. I love it here.

What is your favorite part of the day?

Small talk with my students and lunch with my teacher friends.

What is your favorite pro sports team in Texas?

The Dallas Cowboys.

What is your favorite state?

I haven’t been that many places. So I guess it would have to be Iowa because that is where all my family is. I miss it so much
